What is the issue? NRC vs STC - Either way we have you covered!

Understanding the difference between NRC ( Noise Reduction Coefficient ) and STC ( Sound Transmission Class ) will help you better understand what is wrong acoustically with your space and how to address it. Here at Z-Best, Inc. we have you covered on both fronts. We offer products and applications that focus on both and will help you achieve the most optimized result for your acoustical needs.

So what are these acronyms we hear so much about? We see them in specifications, articles, and such. But what do they really mean and what do you they mean to you and your space?

In short: NRC ( Noise Reduction Coefficient ) is a measurement of how well a product makes the room you are in quieter, by reducing reverb and echo. STC ( Sound Transmission Class ) measures how well a product keeps sound from escaping or transmitting into another adjacent room or space. See below images for reference.

If your space has a bad echo or your meeting rooms, conference rooms, etc are getting bad feedback into the AV equipment, your issue is NRC related.

If your space is getting sound from adjacent offices, or your have rooms that require confidentiality from adjacent rooms, your issue is STC related.

While both are closely related and treating one will usually help with the other, it is important to know your needs and how to address it to achieve the best outcome. Attacking the acoustical issues you face does not have to be an eye-sore either.
